Getting results doesn’t happen by accident. Like most things worth doing, results happen by deliberate planning and proper execution of effort. Planning well is the result of having the right information necessary to get to the desired goal.
Learn the following three key pieces of information regarding the body (ANYBODY’S body), apply them, and you’ll see continued results towards your health goals.
#1. The body THRIVES ON VARIETY.
You can’t keep doing the exact same exercises and eating the exact same way day after day week after week and expect something new to happen.
#2. The body is an ADAPTIVE ORGANISM.
That’s why it thrives on variety. Doing the same exercises all of the time and eating the same foods is a recipe for A WHOLE LOT OF NOTHIN’.
#3. You’ve got to give the body a REASON TO CHANGE.
When was the last time you GAVE YOUR BODY A REASON TO CHANGE? And not just change for change’s sake. It has to be specific and purposefully moving towards your desired goal.
Most people think that their goals for their health and fitness can be achieved by making some adjustments to their eating and starting a general exercise program. That is correct. . . at the beginning.
Soon, however, the progress towards the goal slows down or stops altogether. That’s because their body has adapted to the initial changes. So they then have to intelligently give their body another reason to continue to change. That means that there will need to be additional changes to eating and exercise continuing towards their goal.
The body will adapt to that new program and there will have to be yet further changes to eating and exercise. You have got to give the body a reason to change. . . A GOOD reason to change.
So when does it stop?
It doesn’t.
It’s a huge misconception regarding health and fitness that once someone reaches a goal maintaining that achievement can be done by simply continuing to do the same workouts and eating patterns that they were doing when they arrived at their goal.
Sorry, but that’s just not the case. Now don’t despair, just understand the nature of the human body. What happens when you change the workout at a maintenance level is that the progressive part of the changes drop off. Now the changes are geared towards maintenance as opposed to goal achievement.

Good post Tim! I think the same principles apply to the mind too. Well, duh, the mind controls all those steps doesn’t it, so of course they do, but what I was thinking of is the matter of creativity in any activity. I can sit at my desk and write all day, day after day, but the mind gets jaded, so give it the “variety” of thinking “what if” questions. That’s how my story lines develop.
The mind will then “adapt” to tracing the creative ideas, each triggering the next.
“Reason to change” – new direction for a stalled story or new story lines altogether.
