Periodization is the progressive varying of training to achieve peak performance at the desired time. Progressive varying means incorporating less preferred forms of training in a systematic way to improve the desired form of training. That means endurance athletes do real strength training and vise versa. And not just haphazardly. It’s systematic. So lineman do some muscle endurance and cardio work while basketball players do some strength and explosive power training.
